Written following my visit to the anti-fracking protest camp at Balcombe.

Amsterdam Shanty
There is a church in Amsterdam that kept its service going for three months and more, to give sanctuary to a family of refugees, as the law prevented the officials from interrupting an ongoing religious service to remove them for deportation.
The service continued increasingly ecumenically, as an act of radical compassion, and eventually the authorities backed down. Friends of all faiths and none have sung this with me in a variety of settings.
Burn it All Down
I had to find a way to talk about our relentness pursuit of fossil fuels, in a bit of historical context. I think this would lend itself to some really rich choral arranging. I haven’t managed that yet but if you can hear it, go for it!

There is Only Love
Written for my very dear friend Emma, who held fast to the words ‘There is only love’ up to and through her final illness, and shared the lesson with her friends. This was the last song (of many) that I wrote for her during her life, (not the last she inspired) and it’s the last song I sang to her. Every time I sing it, I’m still singing it to her. There is only love; we prove it every day.
