The well-read cultured scholar's far from rare amongst my kind
Where humans read good books their cats do too, you'll often find
Science fiction's so relaxing after hours of feline frolics
And life's so much more colourful since I discovered comics
And I want to be an X-cat, I want to join the team
I want to be like Cyclops and have deadly optic beams
They'd be just great for mousing and other feline sports
And I'd look as cool as Scott does in my shades of ruby quartz...
I started out on fantasy - my human's tastes, you see
(since they don't allow cats tickets at the local library)
I quickly learned the habit - haven't torn a book in ages
(It's considered impolite to use one's teeth for turning pages
And I want to be an X-cat, I want to learn to fly
Like Rogue and Storm and Banshee can, if they do, why can't I?
I'd love to be like Wolverine - if I had claws like that
I'd have no trouble opening those tins of kitty-cat
Now every room within this house has its own reading matter
From the bathroom to the bedroom (and I quite prefer the latter)
And my reading method's streamlined now - not everybody knows this
But when cats lie over books they're really reading by osmosis...
And I want to be an X-cat - I'd look so sweet in blue
I've already got the fur and tail, and charm and style too -
Though now I come to mention, Shadowcat's the role that calls
As anyone will verify, all cats can walk through walls
I want to be an X-cat - these comic books I read!
I want to be an X-cat - of the mutant moggie breed
I want to be an X-cat - well, a costume would be nice
I really want to be an X-cat - does Chris Claremont's house have mice?
