AS MIDWINTER NEARS / WINTER'S MAJESTY

As midwinter nears, we gather as we may
Kindle flame and heart against the shortest day
Celebrate ourselves: a resurrected light
Waits beyond the crucible of the longest night

Winter's dark majesty may wear the crown
And spread his cold mantle over barren ground
Grace is held in the frost as in the spring
Nor shall hope be lost while breath remains to sing

As midwinter nears, we gather as we may
Kindle flame and heart against the shortest day
Celebrate ourselves: a resurrected light
Waits beyond the crucible of the longest night

Moon and Sun still compel our wond'ring gaze
Gifts to us as we with gifts make bright our days
Feast we now, thankful for our bread and meat
And the company that makes the season sweet

As midwinter nears, we gather as we may
Kindle flame and heart against the shortest day
Celebrate ourselves: a resurrected light
Waits beyond the crucible of the longest night
