Amazon ahoy... you look a bit the worse for wear
I’ve been afraid to come in case I didn’t find you here
The year that mother died - we didn’t feel like sailing then
But I’d like to take you sailing now
Peggy’s got the twins, and Dot writes books to read to them,
And John’s gone off to sea, and his pretty wife’s expecting again.
It’s my fault I suppose I’ve not been good at letters and christmas and things
But I was good at sailing you
Amazon ahoy... at least they kept you warm and dry
And here’s the little flag, the pirate flag we used to fly
The terror of the seas, I was a brute to poor old Peg
But I was always gentle with you
Amazon ahoy - this pirate's been too long away
I've had the boathouse key since Peggy said to come and stay
I never settled down, I've loved too fiercely and in vain
I don't love like that anymore
Amazon ahoy, we're both a bit the worse for wear
But you're still pretty sound, oh and the wind is setting fair
And the lake is big enough and deep enough to lose myself a while
And I'd love to take you sailing now
I'll take you sailing now
